The exams are in full swing, but what has been happening before and during all of it?
Clans were slaughtered and robbed of their wealth, the village is on the steady decline... Or is it?
Quite a few things have happened within Kirigakure, from the death of the Mizukage of whom was replaced swiftly by Tsume, Zenji! To the shifting of clans as insidious plans and plots were unearthed. All in all, the unsavory, corrupt and gross underbelly of Kirigakure has for the time being, been ripped away, allowing a cleaner future. For now.
The Yuki Clan is the most affected by all the recent drama; having their clan head slaughtered and the vast majority of them killed by members of The Abyss, along with their wealth stolen and their prestige diminished, it'd be a miracle if they make a comeback anytime soon. The clan is hanging on loose threads here and there; but despite this, they have been able to provide for their orphaned children and fractured families by selling off some of the estates. Time will only tell of the extent of the damages, but it isn't looking good, especially since their control of the Hunter-Nin has been greatly diminished.
As for the Karatachi and Hoshigaki clans, they have suffered a bit of a big blow; both of their clan heads were involved with the assassination of the Mizukage. As a result, the talk of betrayal has roamed about the village, which has left some individuals wondering -- how could they have kept their involvement with the cult under wraps for so long? Especially as members of the council? Not only that, but with Rugai's appearance during the assassination along with the clan's head aiding in the death of the previous Mizukage, it has put a bit of a dampener on the reputation of the Hoshigaki clan; but this merely allows those that are loyal to the village to prove that they are, moreso in these times of strife. As for the Karatachi clan; they suffer less of a reputation hit, after all, they do not have a rogue from their clan wielding the legendary blade Samehada!
The Tsume clan is on the rise; with the Fifth Mizukage rising, the family has obtained a higher position within the village! After all, with Tsume, Zenji being made Mizukage and having secure more prestige for his clan, things are looking up. Hopefully they'll be quick to become a noble house and help collapse the divide between both noble and peasant alike.
As for the Kaguya clan, their matriarch has been able to better the clan's position and prestige by amassing wealth and influence through battle and work within the Oinin Butai; this now puts them in the position to acquire the Yuki clan estates if they so desire. Albeit if they are feeling honourable and generous, they could very well donate such assets to the now fallen Yuki clan; however rumour suggests, they are being chosen by the council to assume the titles and positions left by Senso Yuki and his clan for the time being as they hold the strength and respect of the others within the village.
So far, with plots unearthed and the cult being dealt a heavy blow along with the corrupt elements of the council being cut out, things have been made more stable within Kirigakure; more funding is now being funneled into Kirigakure, the Daimyo having recognised the plights the village went through.
A bid has been made by Kisuke to build a clan house under his clan's name and should discussion bare well, Kirigakure will have a new permanent family within it's walls, known for it's medical focus and puppets.
Aside from clan drama, it is said a vast majority of genin within the exams have passed the first portion of it; the civilians can only hope that with a good turnout, the village's reputation will rise and funding will be further increased.
However, Kirigakure still has a heavy road ahead of it; in order to become a superpower, it must look to reclaiming it's relics and acquiring a superweapon like the great three, those three being Konohagakure, Kumogakure and Sunagakure.
