The Seven Swords of the Mist
The origin of the Seven Swords of the Mist dates back 120 years in the past, created by a man of unmatched skill and genius named Yotsu. Only one was not crafted by his hand, that of which was the mysterious Samehada - an ancient Hoshigaki relic. Just owning one of the renowned blades earned the wielders respect and fame across the village, however the tales of each blade have differed over the years.
Here is where all that is known about each sword will be documented.
Samehada
Samehada is an ancient Hoshigaki relic that not many know much about. All that's known is that it's capable of absorbing chakra that it comes into contact with and is a sentient blade covered in shark scales. Should one who it dislikes the chakra of takes hold of it, they stab and assault their hand until they let go. The only known members that can truly utilize this sword are those of the Hoshigaki Clan, who possess certain chakra that it likes. Even then, it can still react negatively to them for an unknown reason.
It was originally wielded by Hoshigaki, Keidan who was its first known user. He was the First Mizukage's good friend and partner, and those that faced the true might of the Samehada in his hands would not live to tell the tale. After he passed, Samehada had not taken a liking to any other wielders after his time. This changed with the appearance of Hoshigaki, Rugai, who the blade had not attacked. He's said to have achieved incredible mastery with the blade, but he himself proved to be a foul individual. When Kirigakure was almost defeated by Kumogakure, he turned his back on the village and became a Missing-Nin, deciding his life and power with his weapon was more important than fighting for a dying village.
Hiramekarei
Hiramekarei is said to be one of the stronger of Yotsu's creations. It can either be wielded as a large, singular blade or split into two to make twinswords. It's capable of molding chakra in a unique way that allows it to shape it into many different forms, such as a blade of great length or even a hammer.
Its first wielder was Karatachi, Setsura, a name recognizable as the Second Mizukage's. She had exceptional control with her chakra, and molded the blade's chakra into many forms that let her dominate battles in close quarters. After her murder at the hands of Kumogakure, it was stolen by the Cloud village and hasn't been seen since then. It's assumed that it still remains in their village to this day and that one of their higher-ranked shinobi have trained to wield it.
Kiba
The Kiba blades are fearsome twinswords that are specially designed to be enhanced with lightning. With electricity imbuing its properties, the swords get high-frequency vibrations that combine with its already incredible sharpness to achieve what most call 'the sharpest swords in the world'. Wielding them lets the user execute special, high-powered lightning release techniques with the blade as the source. It's even said to have once rained lightning from a stormy sky down upon the wielder's foes.
Its first two wielders did nothing noteworthy, but upon being slain in battle in the war against Kumogakure, the second wielder's daughter named Nami, Seiyu inherited them. She's said to have achieved the pinnacle of mastery with the Kiba blades, surpassing all previous wielders, and claimed to be capable of commanding lightning to her whim. During Kirigakure's harsh times, the Third Mizukage oppressed those without notable clans- her included- and tried to take the blades from her. Seiyu did not take well to the terrible treatment and left her village behind to wander as a Missing-Nin on her own, taking the Kiba blades with her.
Nuibari
Nuibari is the thinnest blade that resembles a large sewing needle with a long thread of thin wire. Its tip is extremely sharp and narrow, said to be capable of piercing through everything and everything. When fighting foes, its wire can come in handy as a trap that unperceptive eyes miss, getting caught by the sharp thread as a result.
Its first noteworthy wielder was its second, named Yumori, Kaijun. He proved himself to be worthy of the blade after the first wielder trained him to use it to its fullest potential, and once he was ready, it was passed down to him. In battles he showcased his ability to puncture through sturdy structures in one thrust, and has even utilized the thread to stitch foes' limbs to their bodies- or stitch his enemies to other enemies. The Third Mizukage accused the woman he loved of being a spy because she was from an unknown, foreign village during the war. He rose to her defense and the Third threatened to execute them both if he didn't give her up. Kaijun fled the village with her and his legendary blade, both being branded as Missing-Nin shortly after.
Shibuki
Shibuki is a particular weapon that takes on the appearance of a scroll, but within contains a seemingly endless number of explosive tags. It has two sides: one of which has a narrow cutting edge along the entire length of said side, the other side of which unravels a layer of dozens of explosive tags that lay atop of it. Upon striking a target with the latter side, all of the explosive tags ignite and detach, providing a small window for the wielder to escape from the blast radius of the imminent explosion.
Buroga, Hatsu was the first man to properly wield Shibuki and learn all of the tricks and secrets revolving around it, achieving a level of mastery that proved to be beyond those that had the blade before him. He's once demonstrated this by littering his foes in severe burns from explosions, even having outright killed some with his strongest techniques. He is regarded as a cowardly man; Hatsu turned against Kirigakure during a critical battle during the Kiri-Kumo war. He struck down an ally and scratched out his headband, then proceeded to cut down fellow Kiri-nin. He was then accepted into Kumogakure for his usefulness in battle. This act of treason earned him his status as a Missing-Nin.
Kabutowari
Among the swords Kabutowari is the most unconventional of the seven swords, being a hammer and axe instead of a single weapon. The design of the 'sword' allows for either heavy blunt damage with the hammer, the brute force of it enough to smash people and the terrain alike, or slicing, dicing, and picking apart people with the axe. Together the axe and hammer can be combined to break through nearly any defense, leading with the axe then breaking through with the hammer.
Following along with the odd theme of the weapon, there were three prior holders of Kabutowari. The first user wielded them purely as separate weapons, not utilizing the full potential of Kabutowari, and was killed on the battlefield before he could fully learn to utilize it, making most weary to take up Kabutowari. The second user was of much more note, wielding the two parts as if they were one weapon, inventing many of the ways Kabutowari was used after, and becoming the shining beacon of the axe-hammer. It was during the assassination of the second Mizukage that the Kabutowari was stolen, showing back up during the war wielded by one of the Cyclones from Kumogakure, the third, and longest running wielder for nearly the entire war. During the end of the war the current wielder, a Hozuki by the name of Takigetsu, took it back after a bloody battle against the Cyclone, Daku, alongside a platoon of Kirigakure shinobi.
Kubikiribocho
Kubikiribocho is the simplest of the legendary blades by design, but by no means does it not earn its title. As the first legendary creation of Yotsu, it takes the shape of an enormous cleaver sword with two holes in the blade. Despite its simple appearance, there's more to it than one may initially believe. Should the sword ever get damaged or break in any form, it has a unique regenerative ability that takes effect nigh instantly should the blade be coated in blood. No matter the damage suffered, the blade can be restored back to its fullest with sufficient enough blood.
Hozuki, Raigetsu was the original wielder of this blade, as it was a gift from Yotsu bestowed to him. The First Mizukage made the usage of this blade well known when he cut down his foes and used the blade recklessly, damaging it and regenerating it on the fly. Near the end of his life, he took on numerous students to pass on skill of the blade. Out of all of them, a boy named Nashimu, Girochi proved to be the most effective with it, thus was dubbed the second wielder. His skill with it was impressive but still fell short of the First Mizukage's, still proving to be a menace on the battlefield with its unique attributes. Even after his retirement 20 years ago, he still kept possession of the blade but sought out a student. None seemed to be fit for the blade, as he did not want to pass it down to someone war-hungry. He bonded with a student fresh in the academy named Tsume, Zenji, who seemed different than the rest. Girochi noticed that he lacked the desire for violence most of his classmates had during the war and gave lessons with the sword throughout his academy days. Once Zenji was a fully fledged shinobi, the Kubikiri was passed down to him as a gift from his sensei.
