Welcome to Project Shinobi! This is a guide meant toward people that aren't familiar with these types of roleplay games so that they can ease into the RP environment. First off, on Project Shinobi you make a player character that you name and stylize however you want (within reason). For most, this means building up their own shinobi and leading them on their own journey where their experiences and efforts will define how strong they become. Think of the progression of Naruto and how the character evolved over time, both in strength and personality. Let's get down to basics..
Roleplaying.
This is when we refer to the actions you have your character carry out. Performing actions simple, such as sitting and talking to people, to fighting them is all based on roleplaying doing so. Think of roleplaying as contributing your own part in a novel or book and that everyone else has their own parts. You are a piece of the story as it develops live. If you've never written a roleplay before but have a good understanding of story elements and what realistic elements in a character look like, then easing into the game shouldn't be too hard on you. Whenever you have doubts or questions in-game, you are welcome to assistance from the fellow, more-experienced players and admins. Playing Project Shinobi is like building up a 'choose your own adventure' game cooperatively.
To start roleplaying, make a character once prompted by joining the game. Customize all that you wish about their appearance (and profile, if you wish) and try to assign a personality to act with as you play your character. From there, get a feel for how others structure their roleplays and try to mimic it. Here is an example roleplay:
Yuki, Marane frowns while clicking her tongue, looking toward the nearby civilians with a distinct distaste evident in her expression. She looks down her nose at them before turning and walking away to talk with the jounin across the street. "..Hello, sir. I was hoping to learn more about bukijutsu - in particular, throwing stars," says the newly graduated genin, eyes pointed upwards as she awaits their response.
A recluse Yuki who doesn't like others reaches out for training so that she may advance her skills. Just one of the countless examples of both how to roleplay and how to give a character some personality when roleplaying.
Terminology.
While playing Project Shinobi, you will run into a lot of terms people use to shorthand common expressions. Some of them are as follows.
IC as in in-character. (You talking to another character.)
OOC as in out-of-character. (You talking to another player.)
RP as in roleplay.
Metagame is a common term used to describe people RPing having knowledge of things they shouldn't, mostly those of canon facts not yet known to them or OOC information they have learned. An example of metagame would be hearing from your friend over Discord about what two other players are planning and beginning to take actions against them without knowing a thing ICly.
Godmodding/Overplaying refers to when you play up the power of your perk versus another's in a way that is unfair to them. Avoid doing this.
Cybering/ERP refers to erotic roleplay. Sexual content is allowed to be roleplayed as long as it does not break the 'no extreme content' rule. Also, don't do it in public.
Blackscreen is a related term to when two characters ICly have sexual relations, yet the players of those characters refuse to RP it out - something you are always allowed to do if it makes you uncomfortable.
Playby means the picture one uses to reference their character's appearance in their profile.
Profiles are what you see when you double left-click another player character. You can customize these with HTML any way you wish. Try to keep information in the profiles limited to what people would notice about your personality and appearance off-the-bat. So, no backstory they wouldn't know.
Deathavoiding refers to intentionally logging out when in a lethal RP situation. Doing this will be punished by admins. If you cannot finish a scene that is of high-level lethality, make sure to let admins and your opponent know so that a solution may be reached.
