Hello! This is a guide on missions in Project Shinobi, an important feature that has more of a focus in the early and mid-sections of our wipe. Those that are active in trying to go on missions of all 3 types will have that reflected on their weekly checks. I'll be using the word mission for the remainder of this topic, but it is practically the same as saying events. Let's go over the three types of a mission.
Random.
These are missions that eventmin host on a whim to provide roleplay for players not presently doing anything. Commonly, the eventmin will announce/narrate to the village that there is a mission accepting four genin by the gates - as an example. Because of this format, these missions will usually be low-tier with light and moderate injuries being the most one should expect - although severe injuries could happen to those that misstep.
If an eventmin or starter wishes to host a random event with a risk of permanent injury or death, they are required to explicitly state that the mission is of that lethality tier before commencing with combat.
Open.
These are missions that can be openly viewed on the forums and set-up to be taken upon contacting the eventmin offering them. The difference between these and a 'random' mission is that there is a bit more set-up. The lethality of the mission, ranging from none to chance of death, will be listed on each open mission post. Expect these missions to be a 'clear this area of bandits and retrieve X' or 'take out this high profile individual, here are his details' type of procedure - though the possibilities are up to the eventmin.
Recovering the Seven Swords of the Mist falls in this category, though these will be extremely dangerous missions with the reward being claiming their legendary weapon for yourself or someone else - if you live.
Request.
These are only done through a player applying for an event themselves in the event request board. They and an eventmin that wishes to run the event for them iron out the details of the event before running it. Setting, end-goal, types of enemies, who is being included and the lethality of the mission are decided and made clear before the event is carried out. They can range anywhere from picking flowers until finding a rare one as a D or C-rank mission, to battling a high-profile rogue, or even attempting to assassinate the Kage/Daimyo of a foreign land. There can be no danger at all, or such a high chance of death that it will be an overwhelming victory should you prove that you really can dunk on the Hokage.
You are encouraged in both Open and Request type missions to be inclusive to your fellow player shinobi. While one-person missions can happen, and are sometimes the only option for the dynamics of particular missions, we would like to see everyone given an opportunity to participate. Those that include others in their event requests will be acting squad leader for the mission.
Mission Lethality
The lethality of a mission will -always- be made aware to you as a player before combat is initiated. Keep in mind that doing extremely unnecessary and outright foolish actions can get you more than what was signed up for because Player Characters are not the only ones fighting for their life ICly - ECs are, too. Missions can push the limits of your character and their ability to work with their group of shinobi. If the mission states 'risk of death', then it truly does mean there is a risk of dying.
Upon requesting an event, you are able to set the lethality of the event then. They range from non-lethal, chance of injury (cuts and bruises), chance of severe injury (stabs, internal damage, etc), chance of permanent injury (limb loss, grevious injury), chance of death and finally severe risk of death.
