Things grow uncertain as time goes by
Following the execution of one of the village's genin, the Mizukage has been a lot more withdrawn in recent days
Ever since the slums were set ablaze, weeks ago, things have been left more uncertain; news has eventually spread out regarding the matter, albeit the details have been blurred. Whether or not this is an attempt to make sure certain clans aren't made to be viewed as villains or whether to protect those involved, nobody can say for certain. However, one thing can be said, that being with the Mizukage's withdrawal from placing himself towards matters immediately as to focus on more internal matters; instead, Kumako and Tsume, Zenji have taken over the overseeing of the village's issues and the village's shinobi for the time being; the former being more of a secretary and the latter being the one to overview the handling of the Okyu-Eihei and other similarly handled topics.
Not only that! But the council has made a bid to try and expand it's influence in the wake of the most recent events; three representatives, along with three vice representatives have been chosen. It is quite odd they'd target the new generation in particular. If it was anyone's guess, it is simply their newest attempt to win the village over -- they had tried political pressure, they have tried money, they have tried a whole lot of everything and only now, do they believe they are truly and without a doubt in a position to gain more than what they initially bargained for.
But!
Following on from earlier; the executed genin known only as 'Akigetsu' for the reports at this time; that was labelled as responsible for the crime that happened in the lower-class areas of the village hasn't done much to prevent the people of lower-class from growing restless; mostly for the fact that a trained shinobi that was supposed to protect the village, was named as the reason as to why so many needless civilian deaths were caused. It doesn't help either that the Mizukage is not as willing to make his presence as public as before due to being busy with his duties and dreaded political matters; the council has been ramping up it's efforts.
From the attacks from the dreaded cult to the political games and internal drama, people are beginning to wonder... Why does the Okyu-Eihei exist? So far people only view it as a source of oppression, like that of a legalized gang; it does not help either that some within the council have been seen openly suggesting to the peasants that the Okyu-Eihei exist to keep them below the boots of the rich.
Some of the houses in the slums have been abandoned following the incident that occurred, killing many individuals
The richer people of the village have been adamant on calling out the council for it's foul play due to hearing news of this; but it is too late, the damage has been done and controversy has been made. Controversy which without a doubt has somehow played into the council's wicked game. Some peasants also seem to be showing resentment to those that are genin from such backgrounds, as they feel as the genin embody the will of the rich and not the poor; since the council is also filled with rich men and women, they too have also earned the ire of the peasants, which could be seen as a intentional side-effect of their meddling and political nonsense.
For now, things are tense, it'll only be a matter of time before the peasants revolt and begin making demands of both the rich and the servants of the rich.
